What does Monday mean to you?

Depending on who you are or what you do, Mondays could mean different things to you. For some, it is the start of a new week garnished with unending meetings, stress, chasing deadlines and a sprinkle of anxiety.

While for others it is more than just a day, it is a sacred day. It sets the tone for what the week will be. Their thought and action has to be deliberate and intentional. It must be geared towards a goal. It is also not surprising that social media content across the different platforms are always motivational and inspirational on Mondays. Even Tiktok is filled with short motivational videos that will inspire you to take meaningful actions on Mondays.

There is a line from a popular Fela song which says, “Laro Monday Eko oni gba gba ku gba” which simply means Lagos doesn’t tolerate sluggishness or negativity on Monday mornings. This is why millions of Lagosians are always serious minded and on the rush on Mondays(Market men and women also frown against buying or selling goods on credits on Mondays).

While all of these about Mondays may be correct, for me, it is just another day of the week where I need to show up and give 100% to the tasks ahead. This does not infer being lethargic, it rather speaks of taking everything one day at a time. Sometimes when I hang out with Tunde Stephen Ogundele, ACIM on a Saturday or Sunday evening, my moment of happiness can be caught short just by the thought of the next day being Monday. Thankfully, I am gradually shaking off that mindset(Jay Shetty’s podcast and content contributed to me being less worried about Mondays).

I am also lucky to work in a welcoming and friendly environment (shoutout to my Riby HQ geng) where you are not put under unnecessary pressure on Mondays.

So I ask again, what does Monday mean to you?
